Scope and Content of Collection

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) was chartered in 1936 and now represents over 300,000 employees across the country. AFSCME Local 673 represented UCSB's clerical and allied services unit – which included library assistants, secretaries, and dispatchers – until 1997, when CUE (Coalition of University Employees) was formed. CUE now represents clerical workers, and AFSCME Local 3299 represents service workers and patient care technicians. This collection contains materials on AFSCME Local 673, and includes contract agreements with the UC, pamphlets, notices and bulletins, event flyers, and other related materials.
