    Abstract: James Vantine Mink III (1923- ) was a University Archivist (1961- ), director of the oral history program (1965-72), and head of the Department of Special Collections (1972- ) at UCLA. The collection consists of correspondence and research materials for a dissertation on the Western Union Telegraph Company expedition to Alaska, 1865-66.

    Biography

    James Vantine Mink III was born on June 3, 1923 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; attended Occidental College, 1941-43; BA (1946) and MA (1949), UCLA; B.L.S., UC Berkeley (1952); certificate in archival administration, American University, 1953; assistant head, Department of Special Collections (1952-65) University Archivist beginning in 1961, director of oral history program (1965-72), and head of the Department of Special Collections beginning in 1972, UCLA Library; president, Society of California Archivists, 1971-73.

    Scope and Content

    Collection consists of correspondence and research materials for a dissertation on the Western Union Telegraph Company expedition to Alaska, 1865-66.
