Scope and Content Notes

The collection contains advertisements, catalogs, flyers, leaflets, and lists, mainly by U.S. companies, but also a number from Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, and the Netherlands. The materials span 1785-1984, though the bulk of it comes from the 1920s through the 1950s. It includes some material from California firms, including the A. Carlisle & Co. (San Francisco), Borden Printing Co. (San Francisco), California Electrotype and Stereotype Co. (Los Angeles), California Electrotyping Co. (San Francisco), and the University of California Press (Berkeley and Los Angeles).
A number of related items have been cataloged separately and can be searched on Pegasus, the UCSB Libraries online catalog.
The Lawrence B. Romaine Trade Catalog Collection (Mss 107) also has several boxes of type specimens in its Printers' Supplies section.
