    Biographical/Historical Note

    Soviet historian and director of the Institute of Military History, Volkogonov had unfettered access to Soviet archives, on which he based his biographies of Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin. Volkogonov was also a member of the advisory board of the Hoover Institution project in Moscow to microfilm portions of the Archives of the Soviet Communist Party and Soviet State.
