Biography
Milton Berle is most remembered as television's first superstar. He debuted on radio in 1934 and during the 1940s hosted a
variety of shows including the
Texaco Star Theater. Berle was host for the premiere episode of the television version of the
Texaco Star Theater (June 1948) and was eventually made permanent host. The show received an Emmy for Best Kinescope Show (1949). The program
was renamed the
Buick-Berle Show (1953) and later renamed to
The Milton Berle Show (1954). Regular performers (1948-53) included: Berle, Fatso Marco, Ruth Gilbert, and Bobby Sherwood.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of scripts from the radio series
The Milton Berle Show (program numbers 1-58, March 1947-April 1948), and the television series
Texaco Star Theater (program numbers 1-30, September 1952-June 1953) and the
Buick-Berle Show (program numbers 1-4, September-October 1953).
