Scope and Content Note

Personal and Biographical Information includes materials which provide general background about True Boardman and highlights of his career. Included in the series is a small number of mementos from elementary school, high school, and junior college; evidence of Boardman's military service (ca. 1960s); a small number of clippings highlighting Boardman's multi-faceted career; and a narrative-type resume highlighting some of Boardman's creative credits (2002). Additional information about Boardman may be found in the Writing series from a work titled All More or Less True. The files within the series are arranged alphabetically by file titles supplied by the processor, which reflect the contents of the folders.

Series 2. Acting Career (1888-ca. early 1960s; bulk dates 1910-1918 and 1947)

Physical Description: Boxes 34-36; 38-41

Scope and Content Note

The Acting Career Series includes photographs and memorabilia which specifically documenting Boardman's acting career. Included in the series are photographs from the films Daddy Long Legs, The Flirt, Hazards of Helen, M ichael O'Halloran, and other unidentified projects which provide evidence of his childhood acting career. Also included are a small number of programs for films including Girl in the Case, Great Divide, Sorrell & Son, and Undertow; and a scrapbook documenting acting work in Mount Vernon and Poughkeepsie from 1927-1930. Additionally, there are a small number of photographs, script material, and two video recordings of Boardman's performance in a one-man show as Ralph Waldo Emerson presented in the 1970s and the 1990s. The series is arranged alphabetically by project titles.

Series 3. Radio Projects (1934-1952)

Physical Description: Boxes 1-14, 26-32, 34-35, 38

Scope and Content Note

The Radio Projects Series consists of script materials and a small number of mementos from radio related projects in which Boardman was involved, usually as a writer and/or director. The series is arranged alphabetically into subseries by radio series or program title. The processor created the subseries Other Radio Projects for the items not identified with a known radio program and which may or may not have been produced. Included are various versions of scripts and a small number of treatments. The program titles include, Cassandra, Court of the People, Don Lee Hollywood Theatre, Ford Theater, Family Theatre, Forecast, Harvest of Stars, Hollywood Star Preview, Lux Radio Theatre, The Mummers, and Silver Theatre, among others. The mementos include a ticket from Silver Theatre's episode of Stars in their Courses featuring Helen Hayes and a small number of publicity photographs from the Armed Forces Radio Service episode of Mail Call. Files within each subseries are arranged alphabetically by episode or program title.

Scope and Content Note

The Television Projects Series consists of script materials for television related projects in which Boardman was involved in some capacity. The series is arranged alphabetically into subseries by television series or program title. The processor created the subseries Other Television Projects for the items not identified with a known television program and which may or may not have been produced. Included are various versions of scripts and an occasional treatment or outline. The program titles include Bonanza, Colgate Theatre, Ironside, Mr. Magoo, The Men From Shiloh, My Three Sons, Perry Mason, and The Virginian, among others. Files within each subseries are arranged alphabetically by episode or program title.

Scope and Content Note

The Film Projects Series consists of a small number of scripts and photographs for commercial and educational/industrial film projects in which Boardman was involved in some capacity (beside actor). Included in the series are scripts for commercial films such as Pardon My Sarong, She Meant Him No Harm, and Shep of the Painted Hills, among others. Additionally, there are a very small number of photographs believed to be related to industrial film projects. The files within the series are arranged alphabetically by project title.

The Memorabilia Series consists of a match case given to Boardman by Rudolph Valentino in ca. 1926 and six New York Drama: A Choice Collection of Tragedies, Comedies, Farces, Etc serial publications given to Boardman by Francis X. Bushman. The publications appear to be from the late 1800s and some of the serial covers are stamped property of Francis X. Bushman. There is no specific arrangement to the series.

The Boardman Family papers are a mixture of clippings, playbills, photographs, and writings related to True Boardman's family. The series is arranged alphabetically by name into four subseries: Subseries 1. Carro True Boardman; Subseries 2. Thelma Hubbard Boardman; Subseries 3. True Boardman, Sr.; Subseries 4. Virginia True Boardman. The files within each subseries are arranged alphabetically by project title or file titles supplied by the processor, which reflect the contents of the file. Subseries 1, Carro True Boardman, True Boardman's paternal Grandmother, includes a very small number of play scripts and stories written by Carro Boardman (1904-08). Subseries 2, Thelma Hubbard Boardman, Boardman's wife, includes a very small number of scripts written by Thelma and photographs and clippings related to her career as an actress (ca. 1930s-ca. 1960s). Subseries 3, True Boardman, Sr., Boardman's Father, includes a small mixture of clippings, playbills, photographs, fan mail and a scrapbook related to his career as an actor. Additionally, there are a small number of letters from Boardman Sr. to his wife Thelma, found among his papers (1906-18). Subseries 4, Virginia True Boardman, True Boardman's Mother, includes a small amount of undated clippings, playbills, photographs and a scrapbook related to her career as an actress, a story written by her sister Birdie (found among her papers), and marriage certificates (1888 and 1909) that appear related to Virginia's family.
