    Scope and Content of Collection

Home Economics was one of the earliest fields of instruction at UCSB, starting with the Santa Barbara State Normal School of Manual Arts and Home Economics. The subject matter covered by home economics included food and nutrition, textiles and clothing, family economics and home management, family life and child care, house arrangement and furnishings, and institutional management. The department was phased out at the end of the 1972/1973 school year, however many of the fields and roles associated with Home Economics have been assumed by other departments on campus, including the School of Education, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Economics.
The collection contains chronological files of memos, correspondence, flyers, and other related materials.
