departmental files and surveys, computer compilations, reports, minutes, course lists, and
other records maintained in the Office of the Dean. Deans of the School during the years
1950 to 1986 included Ray N. Faulkner, Philip H. Rhinelander, Robert R. Sears, Albert H.
Hastorf, Halsey Royden, and Norman K. Wessells.
Background
Formed in 1948, the School of Humanities and Sciences is the core of Stanford University's
commitment to a world-class liberal arts education and comprises of twenty-three
departments, including Art and Art History, English, History, Economics, Mathematics, and
Biology, along with twenty-five interdisciplinary programs.

While University Archives is the owner of the physical and/or digital items, permission to
