Abstract: Madame Gaspard-Michel, known professionally as Raymonde Collignon (b.1894) made professional debut in 1916 as a singer and dancer at Aeolian Hall with Edwin Evans, shortly thereafter appearing at the London Coliseum, and later at the leading London theaters and concert halls. She performed in Ezra Pound's opera, The testament of Francois Villon and provided Pound his singing model for the closing lyrics of the two sections of Hugh Selwyn Mauberly. She later appeared in plays and reviews, and sang for the BBC. The collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, concert programs, clippings, photographs, books, and ephemera relating primarily to Raymonde Collignon's professional career as a singer and a performer on the English stage.

Biography

Madame Gaspard-Michel, known professionally as Raymonde Collignon, was born in 1894 in Blois, France, and educated in England; made professional debut in 1916 as a singer and dancer at Aeolian Hall with Edwin Evans, shortly thereafter appearing at the London Coliseum, and later at the leading London theaters and concert halls; performed in Ezra Pound's opera, The testament of Francois Villon; Collignon also provided Pound his singing model for the closing lyrics of the two sections of Hugh Selwyn Mauberly; later appeared in plays and reviews, and sang for the BBC.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of manuscripts, correspondence, sheet music, concert programs, clippings, photographs, books, and ephemera relating primarily to Raymonde Collignon's professional career as a singer and a performer on the English stage. Includes 25 letters from Ezra Pound, plus a hand-drawn Christmas card.
