Abstract: Letters and reports (mostly signed originals) dealing primarily with the work of
Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino and his fellow Jesuit missionaries in Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, and
other parts of New Spain. Include histories of missions, accounts of explorations and uprisings, and
information on relations between missionaries and civil authorities.

Scope and Content
These letters and reports (mostly signed originals) relate to the work of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino
and his fellow missionaries in Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa, and other parts of the northern New
Spain, including portions of the present southwestern United States. The documents contain histories of
the missions, accounts of explorations and Indian uprisings, and information on relations between the
Jesuit missionaries and the civil authorities.
The collection, in 75 volumes, was purchased from Jake Zeitlin in 1936. The dealer's calendar of
documents and correspondence concerning the collection constitute volumes 76 and 77.
