Abstract: The San José State University School of Business Records, 1952-1976 (bulk 1960-1970), document the department's activities
and projects, including the Executive in Residence Program, the Visiting Scholar Program, the Distinguished Scholar in Residence,
the Distinguished Businessman Seminar Series, the J.C. Penny Project, conference publications, department meeting minutes,
and published faculty articles. This collection is arranged into two series: Series I. School of Business Programs and Projects,
1956-1976 (bulk 1964-1974); and Series II. Faculty Articles, 1952-1966 (bulk 1956-1964).

This finding aid was created as part of the Survey and Cataloging Project, a two-year San José State University Library grant
project funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The project began in 2008.The Project Director
is Danelle Moon. The Project Archivist is Erin Louthen.
In 1857 the San Francisco Board of Education established Minns' Evening Normal School for current and prospective teachers
in the city. Named after its principal, George W. Minns, the institution was formally established as the first California
State Normal School by the State Legislature in 1862. A decade later, the Legislature voted to move the Normal School to San
José, and the school relocated to its new home on Washington Square prior to the fall term of 1872. After a fire destroyed
the Normal School building in 1880, the Legislature authorized $200,000 to construct a new building on the same site. Completed
in 1881, the building was commonly referred to as the Second State Normal School. After several names and curriculum changes,
Minns' Normal School is now San José State University, offering more than 134 bachelor's and master's degrees with 110 concentrations,
and is recognized as one of the top public universities granting such degrees in the West.
Centered in the heart of San José and Silicon Valley, San José State University's College of Business has been serving the
business educational needs of the local community and the global marketplace since 1928. Initially known as the School of
Business, undergraduate and graduate programs at the College are accredited by AACSB International. Less than 5% of business
programs worldwide have earned this distinguished hallmark of excellence in business education. AACSB standards relate to
curriculum, faculty resources, admissions, degree requirements, computer facilities, financial resources and intellectual
climate. The College of Business is also accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the California
State Board of Education. In addition, the university's Donald and Sally Lucas Graduate School of Business is home to seven
graduate programs offered by the College: four Masters of Business Administration, a Master of Science in Accountancy, a Master
of Science in Taxation, and a Master of Science in Transportation Management.
