    Administrative History

Celebration Theatre incorporated in 1982 as a community theater to celebrate the positive creative and cultural aspects of the gay and lesbian community of greater Los Angeles. The theater has been in continuous operation since its first production in Jim Kepner's National Gay Archives located on North Hudson Street in Hollywood. The theater later rented space in the Scorpio Theatre on Hoover Street in the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles before moving to a West Hollywood-adjacent location on Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.

    Scope and Content of Collection

The collection contains early executive board minutes, budgets, performance flyers and programs collected from the theater's inception by Jim Kepner. It also contains records collected from 1985 by Bill Kaiser, first in his role as promotions director and and later for his performing arts information clearing house, the Purple Circuit, as well as performance and administrative documents of former artistic director Robert Schrock.

    Arrangement

The collection is arranged into three series: Administrative Records, Theatrical Performances, and Memorabilia. The arrangement of the administrative records reflects the order in which they were found. The theatrical performance files are arranged alphabetically by play or performance title. The documents of multiple short plays or one-acts performed as a show are arranged alphabetically under the performance title followed by a list of the individual plays and playwrights.
