Abstract: Matt Weinstock (1903-1970) joined the Los Angeles Daily News as a sports reporter (1924), became managing editor of the News (1934), and became an editorial columnist three years later. He subsequently wrote for the Los Angeles Mirror and Los Angeles Times. Weinstock also wrote two books as well as short stories and magazine articles. The collection consists of Weinstock's newspaper columns, correspondence, royalty statements, a scrapbook, memorabilia, and drafts of his books.

Biography

Weinstock was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on February 12, 1903; moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1911; attended UCLA, 1920-23, and served as sports editor of the Daily Grizzly; joined Los Angeles Daily News as a sports reporter in 1924; became managing editor of the News in 1934, and became an editorial columnist three years later; subsequently wrote for the Los Angeles Mirror and Los Angeles Times; wrote two books, My L.A. (1947) and Muscatel at Noon (1951), as well as short stories and magazine articles; died in Los Angeles on January 8, 1970.

Collection consists of Weinstock's newspaper columns, correspondence, royalty statements, a scrapbook, memorabilia, and drafts of his books, My L.A. and Muscatel at Noon.
