Background
House Resolution 7 created the Assembly Committee on Banking, Finance and Bonded Indebtedness on January 18, 1991. Prior to
HR 7 the current functions of the committee were joined with the Insurance Committee as the Assembly Finance and Insurance
Committee. For the 1993-1994 session, the committee was formed as the Assembly Banking, Finance, and Public Investment with
House Resolution 13 on March 11, 1993. House Resolution 34 on January 10, 1994 changed the committee to the Assembly Banking
and Finance Committee and created a separate standing committee for insurance. The committee was henceforth known solely as
the Assembly Committee on Banking and Finance. Since 1991 the committee has had as many as 16 members (1993-1994) and as few
as 9 (1999-2000 and 2005-2006). This committee handles all of the legislation that pertains to the regulation of the banking
and finance industry as well as consumer financial protections.
