Scope and Content of Collection
Photograph album, apparently of a British soldier with the 2nd Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment, containing 300+ black/white
images, mainly snapshots without captions, ca. 1930s - early 1940s. Includes photos of family, apparently in Britain, as well
as many shots of fellow soldiers, military camps, troops on the march, countryside and inhabitants of the North-West Frontier
of India (now Pakistan and Afghanistan), as well as some of other parts of India and of Burma. Signs in a few photos indicate
locations such as Landikotal (border of Pakistan and Afghanistan), Jutoga Cantonment. road to Kabul, Tribal Territory, and
Frontier of India.
During World War II, the 2nd Battalion was stationed on the North-West Frontier, then in 1942 moved to the south-east coast
of India, and in 1944 drove into Burma. Most of the images in this album appear to be from that time.
Also are included in the album are some commercial set shots of China (mainly Beijing, one of Hargin in Manchuria), with printed
captions in Chinese characters, probably from the 1930s.
