    Abstract: Harry Thomas Cory (1870- ) was an assistant engineer at A. & M. Railway in 1888, before undertaking numerous engineering projects including one with the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he was personally in charge of diverting the Colorado River from running to the Salton Sea (1906-07). Clarence Linus Cory (1872-1937) was a professor of electrical engineering at Highland Park College in Des Moines, Iowa and a professor of electrical engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. The collection contains about 130 transcript engineering reports, including ground water, surface water (hydrolic), electrical, and mining investigations, primarily for cities, counties, and corporations in California.

    Biography

    Harry Thomas Cory was born on May 27, 1870 in Lafayette, Indiana; BME (1887), BCE (1889), Purdue University; MCE (1893), MME (1896), Cornell University; Dr. Engineering, Purdue University, 1929; became assistant engineer at A.& M. Railway in 1888, after which he undertook numerous engineering projects including one with the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he was personally in charge of diverting the Colorado River from running to the Salton Sea (1906-07); also worked on projects for the Egyptian and Sudanese governments and in French and Spanish Morocco, before becoming a consulting engineer in Los Angeles; publications include Irrigation and river control in the Colorado River Delta (1913) and The Imperial Valley and the Salton Sink (1915); Clarence Linus Cory was born in Lafayette on September 4, 1872; BME, Purdue University, 1889; ME, Cornell University, 1891; ED, Purdue University, 1914; professor of electrical engineering, Highland Park College, Des Moines, Iowa, 1891-92; professor of electrical engineering in 1892, and dean of the College of Mechanics in 1901, University of California at Berkeley; he died on August 2, 1937.

    Scope and Content

    Collection contains about 130 transcript engineering reports, including ground water, surface water (hydrolic), electrical, and mining investigations, primarily for cities, counties, and corporations in California. Also contains vol.2 of the Cory family genealogy, biographical and bibliographical materials on Clarence L. Cory, and 6 photograph albums compiled by Harry Thomas Cory.
