Background
Lee Shulman, professor emeritus of education at Stanford, has been president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement
of Teaching since 1997. He earned his doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Chicago in 1963 and was on
the faculty of Michigan State University from 1964 until he came to Stanford in 1982.
