Biographical Note
Gladwin Hill (1914-1992) was born in Boston and graduated from the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachussetts in 1932 and
Harvard College in 1936. He started his career as a journalist working for the
Associated Press. He spent World War II in Europe as a war correspondent. In 1945, he joined the
New York Times and after the war he established the
Times' first news bureau in Los Angeles, California. He served as the bureau chief for twenty-three years and was one of the first
reporters to cover the environment as a beat. He covered the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan in 1968 for
the
New York Times. After retiring in 1979, Hill continued to contribute to local publications and taught journalism at USC. He passed away
in Los Angeles in 1992.
Scope and Content
This collection includes Gladwin Hill's notes, clippings files, and drafts of his articles from his investigation of the assassination
of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. Also included in this collection are his notes and copy filed while covering the assassination
of John F. Kennedy in 1963 and magazines and newspapers with features about the Kennedy family and the Supreme Court. The
titles of the files in this collection are Hill's original file titles.
