Abstract: The postcard album contains 75 marine vessel postcards and 39 train postcards collected by Martha Hoffman. The train postcards, out of scope, have been retained to maintain the integrity of the album. 32 of the marine vessel postcards are of U.S. naval vessels, 12 are of Bay Area ferry boats and 11 are of steam ships. The bulk of the naval ships were postcards depicting the Great White Fleet.

Custodial History

The items were donated to the San Francisco Maritime Museum (SFMM) by Martha Hoffman on November 9, 1966. (See SFMM Accession Log, page 388, line 2) The materials were accessioned into the National Park Service when the museum was made a unit of Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GOGA-735) and then were transferred to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park after the establishment of the new park in 1989 (SAFR-1).
