Words with Introduction by Howard Holtzman

General Physical Description note: Typescript.

Scope and Contents note

Holtzman writes, "The 'solution' to the problem of visualizing her [Isadora's] dances is here attempted of bringing together those fragmentary impressions, so that the reader who is capable of a true work of creative synthesis (admittedly such readers may be rare), may be able to do more than just re-read the cliché that dance is 'the most transitory of arts.'"

Letter, "Dear Friend, I knew you would do what I asked! I always felt so very sure of my friends that I'm careful; I hope not to trouble them with many requests. You are the only newspaper - gent! I've asked to help the sale. Personally I mean. I wish I had asked you a few days earlier. Well--it is now 3 o'clock, & by now my few precious possessions are 'going--going--gone!' Ever so many thanks for your kind help--over and over again. I am always yours gratefully & affectionately, Ellen Terry. P.S. If--the things have gone for next to nothing--I shall die! No one has wired me as yet! Awful pause. I'll go for a walk with my Sheep-Dog. (He would have wired if he had been in London!!)"
