Abstract: Consists of ephemeral items pertaining to San Francisco. The bulk of the material dates from the late 19th century and early
20th century. Includes ephemera related to fraternal clubs and women's organizations; social clubs; institutions such as
churches, schools, universities and hospitals; social service organizations; civic and political associations, and city agencies.
The types of ephemera represented in the collection include: brochures, programs, leaflets, pamphlets, announcements, guides,
tickets, invitations, newsletters, bylaws, directories, fliers, badges, ballots, dance cards, newspaper clippings and magazine
articles.

the Council on Library and Information Resources, in 2009-2010.
Scope and Contents
Consists of ephemeral items pertaining to San Francisco. The bulk of the material dates from the late 19th century and early
20th century. Includes ephemera related to fraternal clubs and women's organizations; social clubs; institutions such as
churches, schools, universities and hospitals; social service organizations; civic and political associations, and city agencies.
There are also significant holdings related to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition (PPIE) held in 1915, and the Golden
Gate International Exposition (GGIE) held in 1939-1940; the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and San Francisco Opera; public
amusements such as Sutro Baths and Woodward's Gardens, and events such as the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. The collection also
includes files, many of which contain reports, on significant architectural landmarks in the city, such as the San Francisco-Oakland
Bay Bridge, and places of historical interest, such as Alcatraz Island.
The types of ephemera represented in the collection include: brochures, programs, leaflets, pamphlets, announcements, guides,
tickets, invitations, newsletters, bylaws, directories, fliers, badges, ballots, dance cards, newspaper clippings and magazine
articles.
Individual ephemera files can contain a single item or more extensive amounts of material, ranging from photocopies to handwritten
documents.
