History

The St. Mark's Poetry Project is part of a community arts program which has been operating out of St. mark's Church in the Bowery since 1966.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of correspondence, literary manuscripts, and ephemera relating to the St. Mark's Poetry Project of New York, a government-financed program of creative arts open to "alienated" youth from ages 17 to 25. Includes issues of the Project's newsletter, 1972-87. Manuscripts of poets include: Ray Bremer, Scott Cohen, Burt Kimmelman, R.A. Reinstein, M.G. Stephens, and Karen Swenson.
