Scope and Content of Collection
The Niel R. Allen papers consist of materials relating to Niel R. Allen, a Second Lieutenant in the 8th Infantry of the U.S.
Army during WWI. Most of the material centers on the inception, management, and production of
The Duckboard, a newspaper which Allen helped create, edit, and publish for Camp Pontanezen, France, towards the end of the war. Also included
in the collection are camp-related materials like bulletins and pamphlets, and some of Allen's personal papers such as his
identification card and officer's record book.
