Scope and Content of Series

Series 1) GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE: Arranged chronologically and reflects the administrative concerns of a professional association including membership, funding sources and program planning. The majority of letters are by the Society's officers during this period: Douglas W. Foard, Ellen G. Friedmann, Carla Lida, Marvin Lunenfield, Carla R. Phillips, David Ringrose, Joan C. Ullman, and Douglas Wheeler. Subjects include conference attendance, travel plans, program topics, and funding sources. There are also letters from, among others, Julio Caro Baroja, Raymond Carr, J.H. Elliott, Gabriel Jackson, Juan Linz, Stanley Payne, and Pierre Vilar. Additional correspondence may be found throughout the collection.

Scope and Content of Series

Series 2) CONFERENCES AND MEETINGS: This series contains draft and final programs, correspondence regarding topics, speakers, venues, funding, and occasional typescript copies of papers presented at annual meetings and related conferences. As an affiliate of the American Historical Association (AHA), the Society also held meetings, social gatherings or presented panel discussions at the winter meetings of the AHA. Arranged chronologically within two subseries.
