Biography

Freedman was the son of a Romanian political refugee, and grew up in a New York tenement; studied mathematics and music; wrote short stories; later wrote material for comedians, plays, books of Broadway musicals, and wrote and produced several radio programs; published books include Mendel Marantz (1925) and The Intellectual Lover and Other Stories (1940).

Scope and Content

Collection contains scripts for radio programs in which Al Jolson, Bert Lahr, Fanny Brice, Eddie Cantor, Red Skelton, Tommy Dorsey, and others starred. Also contains jokes by members of the Freedman family.
