Abstract: Account ledgers, agenda and minutes, agreements and contracts, architectural drawings, articles of incorporation, artifacts, audio tape, books and booklets, brochures, bulletins, bylaws, calligraphy, catalogs, certificates, charters, compilations and summaries, correspondence, deeds, donor lists, event programs, financial statements, flyers, grant proposals, handbooks, indices, invitations, memoranda, mission statements, liturgies, microfilm, motion picture film, newsclippings, news releases, original artwork, personal papers, posters, photographs, reports, resolutions, scrapbooks, scripts, solicitations, speech and homily transcriptions, stock prospectuses, student publications, video tape, and yearbooks pertaining to the operation of Loyola Marymount University. The bulk of the records date from the beginning of Jesuit administration in 1911. Also included are the records of St. Vincent's College, the first college in Los Angeles, administered by the Vincentian Fathers from 1865 to 1911. Also included are the partial records of Marymount College from ca. 1923 to 1968.

Biography / Administrative History

Loyola Marymount University began in Los Angeles, California as St. Vincent's College, a men's school, in 1865 under the auspices of the Congregation of the Missions, and as Marymount College, a women's school, begun in 1923 in Los Angeles, directed by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. In 1973 the two schools merged as present-day Loyola Marymount University
