Abstract: This collection comprises more than two
hundred postcards collected by Dr. Denis C. Guttridge. It contains a wide range of images of
places, people, events, and activities pertaining to Southeast Asia, and particularly to the
former French colonies of Indochina (Annam, Cochin China, Tonkin, and Cambodia). Other
countries are also included, such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. The collection
features postcards from a multitude of publishers, based in cities throughout France and
Indochina. Some of these postcards have been used for correspondence, almost universally in
French, at times with insights into the subject depicted on the postcards as well as into
the lives of the colonists. Unfortunately, due to the bad quality of the paper, many
postcards have lost their versos. Only the versos including messages have been
preserved
