The Kingsley Davis Papers, acquired in 1983, consist of correspondence, memoranda, notes, printed matter, reports, statistics,
and speeches and writings, relating to international population changes, changes in family structure, and urbanization. Davis
used some of this material as research materials for his numerous books on urbanization and population growth.

1952, and contains descriptions of the following countries: Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda,
Uganda, Angola, Cameroon, Gabon, Nigeria, Ghana, and Ivory Coast. Urban development within Africa is discussed extensively,
and includes Davis's observations of the following cities: Leopoldville (now Kinshasa), Elizabethville (now Lubumbashi), Costermansville
(now Bukavu), Usumbura (now Bujumbura), Astrida (now Butare), Kigali, Butembo, Brazzaville, Luanda, Douala, Libreville, Yaounde,
Lagos, Ibadan, Kano, Kaduna, Accra, Kumasi, Tarkwa, Takoradi, and Abidjan. Other content of the diary examines traditional
