1. World War II 1943 - 1945

Scope and Contents note

Series comprises copies of the battalion journal Houston kept for the 3rd Battalion, 370th Regiment Combat Team, correspondence from Houston to his mother and to his future wife, Philippa E. Jones, draft letters from the War Department to Houston, copies of letters of commendation from the Commander of the Buffalo Division, a bulk of photos of Houston in uniform both in Los Angeles and abroad, documents about Houston's Purple Heart award, honorable discharge certificate, army and war publications, his personal war journal, and a leaf of remembrance from the U.S. Military Cemetery in Florence, Italy.
 

1.1 Battalion Journals 1944 August 25 -1945 June 18

Scope and Contents note

Copies of the operations journal for the 3rd Battalion, 370th Regiment Combat Team, 92nd Infantry "Buffalo" Division of the U.S. Fifth Army. The 3rd Battalion began its combat activities in Italy on August 23, 1944. As Battalion Clerk, Houston recorded its hourly and daily activities and produced typed copies of the journal which were sent to regimental headquarters. Houston's folder titles were retained for this subseries.

2. Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company 1944 - 2008

Series consists primarily of documents from Houston's tenure (1970-90) as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company.
