Series Scope and Content

The series consists of board meetings minutes, 1985-1991, of Lawyers for Human Rights, the lesbian and gay bar association of Los Angeles, on whose Board of Governors served from 1984 to 1991. The series also includes a few related miscellaneous documents, such as clippings and amicus curiae briefs.

Series 2:  National Gay Rights Advocates 1983-1990

Physical Description: 14 folders.

Series Scope and Content

The series consists of files collected by Weinberger while he was a member National Gay Rights Advocates (NGRA), including his years on the board of directors, 1987-1988. The NGRA was a non-profit public interest law firm, which brought legal action and educated attorneys to end discrimination based on sexual orientation. It closed its doors in May 1991. The files include amicus curiae briefs, correspondence, minutes, proposals, and press releases.

Series 3:  Lavender Law: The National Conference on Lesbian and Gay Legal Issues 1988-1997

Physical Description: 18 folders.

Series Scope and Content

The series consists of materials from the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association's biennial Lavender Law National Conference on Lesbian and Gay Legal Issues. The conference reviews how the law impacts lesbians and gays across a wide variety of topics including AIDS, civil rights, criminal law, domestic partnership, employment, estate planning, family law, immigration, right to marry, and transgender law. The documents in the series are the prepared reference materials, including panel information, presentation outlines, copies of decisions, and clippings.

Series Scope and Content

The series contains other organization and conference materials including manuals, minutes, notes, reference materials and Weinberger's résumé. The organizations represented include the Coalition to Pass A.B. 1 (the "Gay Rights Bill" authored by Assemblymen Art Agnos and Mike Roos), the Lambda Lawyers Roundtable, previously known as the Lambda Activists' Legal and Educational Round Table (Lambda ALERT), and the National Lesbian and Gay Law Association (NLGLA). The conference materials include correspondence, registration, and reference materials from the 1988 War Conference, Washington, D.C., a meeting of gays and lesbians organized to strengthen the community and political movement.
