Biographical/Historical note
Elsbeth (Kreiter) Madvig served on the staff of Sunset Magazine until 1927 before joining Stanford University's Dept. of Geology,
where she was secretary until 1948.
Elsbeth was born November 6, 1879 in Columbia, PA. She graduated from Abilene High School, Abilene, KS, in 1897. Elsbeth married
Christian Otto Madvig in 1909. The couple had one daughter, Gerda Ingeborg Madvig (1915-2007). Elsbeth died on October 17,
1949 in Palo Alto, CA. She is buried in Santa Rosa Memorial Park, Santa Rosa, CA.
