Biographical/Historical note
Stevens earned her a.b. and M.A. in physiology at Stanford University, 1899 and 1900. She entered Bryn Mawr as a graduate
scholar in biology in 1900, pursued studies in Naples and Wurzburg during 1901-1902, and received her Ph.D. in June 1903.
She remained affiliated with Bryn Mawr, doing research on the chromosomal determination of sex and other topics. She died
in May 1912.
Scope and Contents note
These materials were collected as preliminary research for an article on Stevens to be published in SANDSTONE AND TILE, the
quarterly publication of the Stanford Historical Society. Included are correspondence of Stephen G. Brush, Clifford J. Choquette,
and other researchers, 1977 and 1993; copy prints of photographs of Stevens, schools she attended, her tombstone, and other
images; biographical articles, her obituary, and other publications about Stevens. Also includes eight slides by Choquette
of photographs of Stevens, her sister Emma, their home in Mountain View, California, and other images.
