Abstract: Francis Adelbert Blackburn (1845-1923) taught high school in San Francisco, California and Old and Middle English at the University of Chicago. He retired in 1913 and relocated to Hollywood, California. The collection consists of diaries, travel journals, correspondence, legal papers, sketch books, photographs, family records, and lecture and research notes of Francis A. Blackburn.

Biography

Blackburn was born in 1845; BA, University of Michigan; Ph.D, University of Leipzig, Germany; taught high school in San Francisco, California; taught Old and Middle English, University of Chicago; moved to Hollywood, California after retiring in 1913; died in 1923.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of diaries, travel journals, correspondence, legal papers, sketch books, photographs, family records, and lecture and research notes of Francis A. Blackburn. Includes journals from trips in Europe, Canada, and the U.S. Also includes University of Michigan and University of Chicago memorabilia.
