Biographical/Historical Sketch

Rolf Ling Bolin earned his AB in graphic arts at the University of Utah in 1925; he then studied biology at USC and Stanford, where he earned his MA in zoology in 1929 and his Ph.D. in 1934. After completing his Ph.D. at the Hopkins Marine Station (HMS), Dr. Bolin joined the faculty there until he retired in 1967. He was Assistant and Associate Director of HMS for much of the time and also ran the Te Vega program.
The California Academy of Sciences has posted online this 1952 interview with Dr. Rolf Bolin: Science in Action, Davy Jones' Locker  (1952 May 27). Here he has just returned from spending several months on board the Danish "Galathea" Deep-Sea Expedition in the South Pacific and the Tasman Sea.
