Scope and Contents
John Bodger and Sons Co. was a leading growing of seeds in the Lompac Valley along with Burbee and Denholm seed companies.
It was world reknown for its growing techniques. John Bodger created the dahlia-flowered zinnia which is a main stay of gardens
today for its beautiful color and as good cutting flowers. Included in the collection are catalogs and price lists, black
and white photographs of flowers, historical photographs and of the business, breeding books, and press releases.

Administrative History
John Bodger, a native of England, founded the Bodger Seeds Ltd. in 1896. John Bodger and Sons Company, founded in 1890 in
California, was a breeder and producer of flower seeds. Bodger Seeds Ltd, a division of the company, was responsible for breeding
and production operations. In 2009, the Bodger Company sold its holdings. During its history, Bodger had operating sites in
the following locations in California and Chile: Santa Paula, Los Angeles, Gardena, South El Monte, Lompoc, Covina, Chino
and Quillota, Chile. John Bodger and Sons Company sold its business in 2009 after 100 years. It was one of the largest seed
company in Lompoc Valley since 1925.
