Scope and Contents

The Polish Arts and Culture Foundation Collection consists of Polish language radio broadcasts on open reel tape. The programs feature interviews with Polish scholars, filmmakers and artists, and discussions of Polish art, science, literary criticism, history, and archeology. The majority were produced by Polskie Radio i Telewizja/Radiodiffusion Television Polonaise and were distributed to the Polish Arts and Culture Foundation in the United States. A few recordings contain English transcripts. Tapes have been coded according to subject, such as FM for film, L for literature and poetry, TH for Theater, SC for science, H for History, and SK for the Spotlight on Polish Culture series. The Polish Arts and Culture Foundation was established by Wanda Bronislawa Tomczykowska (1921-2010) in 1966. Originally based in San Francisco, the Foundation is currently overseen by Wanda’s daughter Caria Tomczykowska in Oakland, California.
