    Abstract: The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) formed as a result of the passage of the Lewis Air Quality Management Act (1976). In 1977, smaller county air pollution control programs merged together to form the AQMD; the AQMD's primary responsibility is to develop and implement the region's air quality management plan to provide a framework for air pollution control efforts in the South Coast basin. The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, films, slides, reports, and various files related to the activities of the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

    History

    The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) covers a region in California made up of the non-desert portion of San Bernardino County in addition to Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties; it formed as a result of the passage of the Lewis Air Quality Management Act in 1976; in 1977, smaller county air pollution control programs merged together to form the AQMD; the AQMD's primary responsibility is to develop and implement the region's air quality management plan to provide a framework for air pollution control efforts in the South Coast basin.
