Biography

Sidney Carroll graduated from Harvard University in 1934. In 1940, he married singer June Carroll to whom he would remain married for the remainder of his life. He began his career writing for motion pictures and television in 1949. In addition to writing for such television shows as Omnibus and The Du Pont Show of the Week, Carroll was known for his dramatic television specials including The Louvre, The Forbidden City, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Truman at Potsdam and the Beacon Hill pilot. Carroll's film credits include A Big Hand for the Little Lady, Gambit and The Hustler. Carrol's work was well received by the industry. His writing for The Du Pont Show of the Week was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1963 and both The Louvre and The Forbidden City documentaries received Emmy Awards in Outstanding Program Achievement. His work on Omnibus garnered him an Edgar Award in 1957 and he was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on the film The Hustler in 1961. Carroll died in Los Angeles, CA on November 3, 1988.
