Organizational History
Network and Academic Computing Services (NACS) provides telephone, network, and computing services in support of research
and education at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). NACS provides central computing services, computer laboratories,
computer support for departments and research groups, and campus-wide technical coordination.
NACS had its origins in the Computer Facility , which was established when the campus opened in 1965. By 1990 it had become
the Office of Academic Computing. This name was changed in July 2000 to Network and Computing Services in order to better
represent the office's role on campus.
