Abstract: The Lisa See Papers collection consists of correspondence, manuscripts and manuscript drafts, screenplays, treatments, articles,
clippings, and other printed materials relating to the literary career of author Lisa See. Lisa See was born on February 18,
1955, in Paris, France. As a young girl, she spent many hours with her paternal grandparents in Los Angeles' Chinatown. The
collection also includes materials related to a museum exhibition and opera, both based on her book "On Gold Mountain: The
One-Hundred-Year Odyssey of My Chinese-American Family"; materials related to undergraduate course work at Loyola Marymount
University, and additional personal material such as notebooks, appointment books, and address books.

Biography
Lisa See was born in 1955 in Paris, France. She received a BA degree from Loyola Marymount University College of Liberal Arts
in 1979. Her published books include
On Gold Mountain : the one-hundred-year odyssey of my Chinese-American family (1996), a NY Times Notable Book of 1995, and
Flower net (1997), which was an Edgar Nominee for Best First Mystery. She has also collaborated on books with her mother Carolyn See
and John Espey, together using the pseudonym Monica Highland. These books include
Lotus land (1983),
110 Shanghai Road (1986),
Greetings from Southern California (1988) and
Precious cargo (1990). See worked as a freelance journalist for various publications, including
TV Guide and
Sporting Times. For many years she was the West Coast correspondent for
Publishers Weekly. In addition to writing books and articles, See wrote an opera libretto based on her book,
On Gold Mountain, and assisted in mounting an exhibition, based on the same book, for the Autry Museum of Western Heritage.

other printed materials related to the literary career of author Lisa See, covering the years 1973-2001. It also includes
materials related to a museum exhibition and opera, both based on her book,
