Abstract: David Knuth Bjork (1891-1962) was a professor (1932-44, 1944-58) and chairman of the UCLA history department (1939-58). He
was also the director of the Western Federal Savings and Loan Association, Los Angeles (1939-43). The collection consists
of photographic prints of material in the Reval state archive, now Tallinna Linnaarhiiv in Estonia, as well as reels of microfilm
containing material from various archives, and printed ephemera, course information, speeches, clippings, correspondence,
notecards, offprints, and a manuscript. Much of collection is in Old Norse.
Physical location: Stored off-site at SRLF. Advance notice is required for access to the collection. Please contact the UCLA Library Special

David Knuth Bjork was born on July 19, 1891 in Stockholm, Sweden; came to the U.S. in 1911; attended Illinois Wesleyan University
(1915-16) and Pacific School of Religion (1916-18); AB (1919), AM (1920), and Ph.D (1923), UC Berkeley; instructor (1923-26),
assistant professor (1926-32), associate professor (1932-44), chairman of the history department (1939-58), and professor
(1944-58), UCLA; director, Western Federal Savings and Loan Association, Los Angeles, 1939-43; decorated knight of the Royal
Order of Vasa by the King of Sweden; President of the Southern California chapter of the American Scandinavian Foundation;
contributed to various historical publications; he died on March 5, 1962.
