Description
Edwin C. Voorhies (1891-1967) served as Professor of Agricultural Economics, University
of California (1925-1958) and Dean of Students and Vice-Chair of the Statewide Department of Agricultural
Economics (1952-1957). His papers contain correspondence, lecture notes, scrapbooks, photographs, and materials
relating to the history and planning of the University of California, Davis.
Background
Edwin Coblentz Voorhies (1891-1967) began his fifty four year career with the University of California in 1913,
immediately after graduation from the University's Berkeley campus. He served on the Davis campus from 1913 to
1925 in the Department of Animal Husbandry, except for a period of service in the Army during World War I. In
1925 when the Department of Agricultural Economics was organized at Berkeley, Professor Voorhies became one of
its founding members. In addition to his professorial duties on the Berkeley campus, he also served the
University as Dean of Students. He served at Davis as Vice-Chairman of the Statewide Department of Agricultural
Economics from 1952 to 1957, when he resumed full-time professorial duties. He retired in 1958.
