Background
Ellen Smith Stadtmuller earned her A.B. in physiology at Stanford University in 1907; in 1912 she earned her M.D. from the
University of California. One of her professional positions was chief of the Bureau of Child Hygiene (California Dept. of
Public Health) in San Francisco.
