    Abstract: Contains administrative files, and worship and liturgy files. Administrative files include correspondence, board and committee meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, brochures, and Biennial Convention programs. Worship and Liturgy files include service scripts, schedules, lectionaries, readings, and programs for Sunday service. Also contains newsletters, flyers, readings, and meeting minutes from other Dignity chapters including the national chapter and the East Bay chapter.

    Chronology

    1969 Father Patrick X. Nidorf arranges meetings in Southern California for Catholic homosexuals to worship eventually becoming Dignity/USA
    1973 Dignity/Bay Area is formed.
    1982 Dignity/Bay Area changes its name to Dignity/San Francisco.
    1983 Archdiocese of San Francisco asserts that the homosexual lifestyle is "morally unacceptable"
    1988 St. Boniface, in light of 1983 Archdiocese's assertion, expels Dignity/San Francisco's membership from participation in services.
    1989-1993 Services held at Dolores Street Community Church.
    1993-present Services moved to Seventh Avenue Presbyterian Church after fire at Dolores Street Community Church.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Contains administrative files, and worship and liturgy files. Administrative files include correspondence, board and committee meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, brochures, and Biennial Convention programs. Worship and Liturgy files include service scripts, schedules, lectionaries, readings, and programs for Sunday service. Also contains newsletters, flyers, readings, and meeting minutes from other Dignity chapters including the national chapter and the East Bay chapter.
    The papers cover Dignity/San Francisco's relationship with the Archdiocese of San Francisco and its shift from the Bay Area chapter to the San Francisco Chapter.
    The newspaper clippings cover not only Dignity/San Francisco, but also Catholicism and homosexuality in general. Of note are essays by Father Henry Fehren, Kevin Gordon, and Paul Giurlanda.
