Papers and photographs document Gere's research on Italian old master drawings, especially Raphael and his circle, and Taddeo and Federico Zuccaro.

John Arthur Giles Gere (1921-1995) was a British art historian and connoisseur of Italian sixteenth-century drawings. Educated at Winchester and Balliol, he became Assistant Keeper in the Department of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum in 1946, and served as Keeper from 1973 to 1981.
