Biography

Dix was born Ernest Carlton Brimmer on July 18, 1894 in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a medical student, he started acting in campus plays. Dix made his motion picture debut in 1921 and gained popularity playing hero roles during the 1920s. He worked for Paramount, RKO, and other companies by appearing in films such as The Ten Commandments (1923), The Vanishing American (1925), and Cimarron (1931), as well as playing the Whistler in a series of adventure films (1940s). Dix died in 1949.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of approximately 5,200 original photographs related to the career of actor Richard Dix. Contains stills from 49 (plus) productions and several portraits, production and scene stills, and location and camera crew shots. Also includes photographs of family and friends, as well as some unidentified items.
