The Newport Ocean Sailing Association (NOSA) was founded in 1947 to organize a boat race from Newport Beach, California to Ensenada, Mexico. The first 125-nautical mile race took place on April 23, 1948 and was called The Governor's Cup. The race was renamed the Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race and grew to include 20 boat classes.
