Historical note

USC's Youth Studies Center was founded in 1958 with a five year grant from the Ford Foundation. Its mission was to discover creative means by which to cope with the increasing problems of youth. In 1963, the Ford Foundation awarded a second grant with the stipulation that USC maintain the Center as a permanent campus institution. It was eventually incorporated into the Public Systems Research Institute of the Department of Sociology, and ceased activity in 1998.
