Series I. Papers, 1907-1983

Physical Description: 11 lin. ft.

Scope and Content Note

Series comprises scholarly and personal papers. The bulk of the series documents With's career in America and especially the years 1948-1966, when With taught at UCLA. These items include lecture notes; research files on various topics consisting mainly of clippings from Life magazine; manuscript drafts; correspondence; and audio discs of lectures. Non-UCLA material includes correspondence; research material on Swiss peasant masks and modern artists; extensive original and facsimile drafts of With's autobiography; press clippings regarding exhibitions; and personal memorabilia. Three boxes hold material from With's years in Germany, including lecture notes; press clippings documenting With lectures, publications and exhibits; personal correspondence; and photographs of installations in museums in Germany and of With's family.
