Abstract: Carol Boyd Hallett, a Republican, was first elected to the 77th Assembly District in 1976. She authored bills concerning agriculture,
education, and flood control in Monterey. Hallett also introduced legislation to reform the State Teachers' Retirement System
(AB1002, 1977-1978) and the Public Employees' Retirement System.

The California State Archives acquired the Carol Hallett papers following her final Assembly term.
Carol Boyd Hallett, a Republican, was first elected to the 77th Assembly District serving Monterey, San Luis Obispo, and Santa
Barbara, in 1976. She was born on October 16, 1937, in Oakland. She attended the University of Oregon with a major in Art
History, and San Francisco State College, majoring in Business Administration. Assembly Member Hallett was a former Administrative
Assistant to Senator Donald L. Grunsky and a former field representative to Congressman William M. Ketchum. She was married
to James T. Hallett in 1958.
Hallett was a member of California Women in Agriculture and the San Luis Obispo County Ninety-Nines. She was affiliated with
the San Luis Obispo Republican Women, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority. Other affiliations
include serving on the legislative committee for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Salinas Chamber
of Commerce. She was named the Monterey County "Farmer of the Year" in 1978. She served as an Executive member of the National
Conference of State Legislators.
Assembly Member Hallett was elected Minority Floor Leader in May of 1979 and served in that capacity until January 1981.

as a member of the California State Legislature. The bills introduced by Carol Hallett include a wide array of subjects.
She authored bills concerning agriculture, education, and flood control in Monterey. Hallett also introduced legislation
to reform the State Teachers' Retirement System (AB1002, 1977-1978) and the Public Employees' Retirement System in order to
protect them both from frequent abuse.
